Japanese Food in Vancouver

Traditional Japanese food usually includes seaonal ingredients and spices. Breakfast might consist of miso soup, gohan (rice), nori (dried seaweed), green tea and pickles. A typical Japanese lunch usually simple and consists of noodles. Dinner sometimes consist of a main dish of meat or fish, rice, a side dish of vegetables, miso soup, and pickled vegetables. Chopsticks are usually used to eat and it is easy to learn!
Most Japanese restaurants show what they serve by displaying plastic food and you will probably see some of this type of display on Robson street or on other various streets in downtown Vancouver. Right before eating the meal, the Japanese say "Itada-kimasu" which is the polite phrase which means "I receive this food." This expresses thanks to the chef or the person who made the food. At the end of the meal, the Japanese say "Gochiso-sama" which is a polite expression to give thanks for the delicious meal. Also, traditional Japanese meals are often eaten on a tatami(a mat and possibly pillows) around a very low table.
