Where To Stay

vancouver hotels

Where to stay in Vancouver can have so many different answers. Do you want to stay near GM Place when the Canucks are playing? Do you want to stay near the new downtown convention center? What about the airport - do your requirements mean that you need to have this as a priority? I recieved an email from a visitor recently and she needed to stay near Vanier Park because she was going to attend Bard on the Beach. Another visitor asked about staying near the US consulate.

I've stayed in several hotels in Vancouver and my needs are different from yours. I don't mind staying a little further outside the city in the suburbs and usually find myself in New Westminster at the Inn at Westminster Qyay. This is a nice hotel that is located on the Fraser River and is very close to skytrain for easy access to downtown Vancouver so I don't have to drive. Skytrain gives me access to BC Place for Lions games, GM Place for Canucks games and Swanguard Stadium for Whitecaps games. So that's why I stay there, and plus their is a nice pub close to the hotel!

I have stayed at two hotels near the airport. The Coast Airport Hotel was the first one I stayed at. This hotel is managed by Coast Hotels and they do everything right. They have an airport shuttle, a restaurant and a pub. They aim pretty much at the business clientele at this hotel. So they have the stuff you need and expect if you are travelling for business reasons.

The other hotel I stayed at near the airport was the Best Western Richmond Hotel & Convention Centre. This hotel is in the heart of the action in Richmond. Richmond, by the way, is the city where the Vancouver International Airport is located so that is why I'm going to be refering to Richmond when I talk about the airport. This hotel is a large full service facility with meeting rooms, conference facilities, an airport shuttle, a restaurant, pool and a pub. It shares a parking lot with the Marriot Hotel which is where my sister has stayed. The Marriot is not as large as the Richmond Inn but it is newer and quite frankly a little nicer in my opinion. I saw the room my sister stayed in and I thought it looked quite comfortable.

As I mentioned, both the Marriot and The Best Western Richmond Inn and Conference Center are in the downtown core of Richmond which gives you lots to do and see when you want to get out of your hotel. You may want to try a new restaurant or visit a different pub like the Foggy Dew or take the new Canada line Skytrain extension to downtown Vancouver.

The only true airport hotel, as in a hotel right at the airport, is the The Fairmont Hotel Airport. I haven't stayed there myself but I have friends who have. They have told me that this hotel is wonderful and they really enjoyed their time at this hotel. Fairmont of course means excellant service and quality of standards - in other words staying here is going to cost you some bucks! Maybe you don't care, maybe you are from Europe or the UK and your currency gives you a discount on the exchange - if that's the case you'll be staying in a nice hotel. If budget accomodation is on your mind try out some of the other airport hotels I've already mentioned.

I was asked " where to stay in Vancouver that's near the US consulate?". I suggested the Days Inn Downtown Vancouver Hotel. I don't know anything about this hotel and I never heard back from that visitor. My answer was based on that I learned the visitor might have needed something that was budget oriented. The Days Inn Downtown Vancouver Hotel is a very short distance to both the new convention center and the old one at Canada Place and might be easier on the budget if that is a consideration for you.

The US consulate is near the new convention center on the waterfront in Vancouver. This new convention center will be the media center for a few weeks in the winter of 2010. I haven't stayed in a hotel near either the new or old convention centers. I have been in the Pan Pacific Hotel which is at Canada Place which is the site of the old convention center, but I haven't stayed at the Pan Pacific hotel. The Pan Pacific puts you into a new stratosphere of hotel room prices. It's worth it if you want to spend the money.

This is a hotel room search engine and reservation system that is quite handy for getting current room prices on available hotels rooms in Vancouver. Just set your parameters such as the number of people traveling with you and your dates and let the system find you a room.

When I travel to Vancouver - I use this search engine to find and then reserve a room. I don't have it bookmarked, I just use the above search engine right on my own site. It took 15 minutes from the time I did the initial search to selecting and paying for my hotel room and in the end the answer to my question of where to stay in Vancouver was solved by the Sandman Hotel City Center.

When you use the Eye on Vancouver hotel search engine your results are displayed on the basis of availability and best available rate. The best available rate can be offered to you from up to 30 different online hotel booking agencies. In my most recent visit it was Travelocity that gave me the best available rate. I was very pleased with the experiance from start to finish and since I paid for the room online, checking into my hotel was very quick. Try it out, it will help make your quest for where to stay in Vancouver a little bit easier.
